What are walk-in clinics?
Walk-in clinics provide quick access to primary care for non-emergency health issues, allowing you to get treatment and advice from a healthcare provider even if you do not have a family doctor.
Who can use a walk-in clinic?
In short, anyone can use a walk-in clinic! However, you should bring your provincial health card. For example, in BC you should bring your MSP card or your OHIP card in Ontario.
If you do not have a health card, you can still see a healthcare provider, but you may need to pay a fee.
You can also go to a walk-in clinic if you have a family doctor. But depending on your province, you may need to share any relevant records with your family doctor after your walk-in doctor appointment.
Can I book an appointment at a walk-in clinic?
Traditionally, you couldn’t book an appointment at a walk-in clinic. Usually, you have to go to a clinic and join a waitlist. This typically means sitting around in a waiting room, with no idea how long it will be. If you have previously visited a WELL Health Medical Centre in British Columbia for an appointment, you can book a walk-in appointment using online booking at the same location.
To pre-book a walk-in appointment, select the Find a Clinic button and visit the appropriate clinic profile for booking options.
Please remember, that it is only possible to pre-book a walk-in appointment at a clinic you have attended previously.
Will I be guaranteed an appointment at a walk-in clinic?
At most Canadian walk-in clinics, you are not guaranteed to see a doctor when you visit a walk-in clinic. This can lead to frustration, long waiting times, or not getting the opportunity to see a walk-in doctor.
At many WELL Health clinics in British Columbia, our Fast Track service allows patients to see a doctor virtually when an in-person appointment is not possible.
