Endocrinology

Endocrinology is the study of hormones and the various glands and tissues responsible for their production. 

Hormones regulate metabolism, respiration, growth, reproduction, sensory perception, and movement. Endocrinology focuses both on the hormones and the many glands and tissues that produce them. 

The human endocrine system consists of several glands, which release hormones to control many different functions. 

When the hormones leave the glands, they enter the bloodstream and are transported to organs and tissues in every part of the body. 

Endocrinologists address conditions such as metabolic disorders, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, thyroid and gonadal disorders, adrenal disorders, hormonal imbalances, pituitary disorders, and endocrine tumours. 

During an endocrinology appointment, you can expect a comprehensive assessment of your medical history and discussions about symptoms and potential diagnostic tests to measure hormone levels. Your endocrinologist will provide insights, discuss treatment options, and establish a follow-up plan. 

A referral from a family doctor, nurse practitioner, or another primary care physician is required to see a WELL Health endocrinologist.
